The whole mess begins with an attempt to assassinate the princess of a foreign country who is on a diplomatic mission to Japan. Her plane explodes but the heroine rescues herself by a bold jump into the ocean depths. Some time will pass before the warning she was carrying reaches its destination. It concerns a mysterious meteorite which crashed on Japanese islands. The word has it that with it came a mythical monster Ghidora, an intergalactic hooligan, who’s responsible for eradicating life on Mars. However, before this dragon enters the action, our old acquaintances appear: Godzilla and Rodan, who, since Rodan, the Flying Monster, was napping in the rifts of the volcano Aso. The monsters begin fighting. Our princess arrives to the familiar island of Infant asking for Mothra’s help. The giant insect comes to the Earth’s rescue. She attempts to reconcile Godzilla and Rodan so together they can chase the space intruder away. After a brief moment of hesitation, the monsters reach a truce and set out to war with Ghidora... His fate is sealed. After everything is over, “our team” kindly leaves Japan, disappearing in the depths of the Pacific.
The three-headed dragon Ghidora turns out to be a bullseye. In the original movie series, he will reappear four times. In Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Ghidora’s next picture, the nearly identical cast includes Godzilla and Rodan.
